VMware Acquires AirWatch to Strengthen Its ‘VDI Cloud Computing Venture’ with Mobility
The VMware’s acquisition of AirWatch will boost the energy into its futuristic cloud computing ‘Virtual Desktop Infrastructure VDI’ project. The AirWatch technology would help improve VDI services by integrating device management and mobility in the cloud environment.
GREATRESPONDER.COM – This was announced by the AirWatch on Jan 22, 2014 through a press release statement that they have signed a definitive agreement with the giant vendor of virtualization and cloud computing infrastructure VMware – under this agreement, the AirWatch company that deals in the device management and mobile security would be acquired by the cloud giant against an amount of as much as $1.5 billion.
It was further explained in the press release regarding the acquisition terms and conditions that as much as $1.175 billion would be paid in cash by VMware, while the remaining amount would be paid off in installments and assumed un-vested equity.
As far as the employees and management infrastructure of the company is concerned, the founder and CEO of AirWatch would be managing the entire existing team of the company and he will be reporting to the EVP and GM of VMware Mr. Sanjay Poonen. While the chairmen of AirWatch Alan Dabbiere would report to the CEO of VMware Mr. Pat Gelsinger.
It was further elaborated that VMware is very serious about its cloud computing based venture of desktop virtualization, which will also include the enhanced features of mobility and device management in in the cloud environment, which will support the secure and fast access through mobile devices.
In his statement, Sanjay Poonen said, “Our vision is to provide a secure virtual workspace that allows end users to work at the speed of life – The combination of AirWatch and VMware will enable us to deliver unprecedented value to our customers and partners across their desktop and mobile environments.”
Since the tug of war between Citrix and VMware is going-on in the domain of cloud computing based VDI infrastructure services, this acquisition would put the virtualization giant in more comfortable and competitive position to aggressively pursue its ambitious cloud project in virtual workspace.
In the press release statement, Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of VMware said, “”AirWatch provides best-in-class, secure, enterprise-mobile management to thousands of businesses around the world – With this acquisition, VMware will add a foundational element to our end-user computing portfolio that will enable our customers to turbo-charge their mobile workforce without compromising security.”
