Web Hosting Provider SoftLayer Opens New Datacenter in Europe


Greatresponder.com – 2011-10-16 – On Thursday, the web hosting providing giant SoftLayer made the announcement that it will now be opening it’s European headquarters in Amsterdam. The web hosting company’s first data center that will be located in Europe will be in Amsterdam as well.


According to the press release, the web hosting company SoftLayer has initially invested about $75 million in Holland and its European operations. Those opperations and new services includes new network PoPs in London and Frankfurt as well.


In addition to this statement, the web hosting company newly named Jonathan Wisler as the new general manager for the European Operations.


The company also claims to have recruited an additional further 25 people to staff the data center and support operations.


“Given the overall size of The Netherlands compared to the rest of Europe, this country is one of the most advanced in terms of Internet infrastructure and networking,” Wisler said in a statement. “We’re seeing a thriving community of both established digital entrepreneurs and start-ups here. There is a terrific buzz, particularly in Amsterdam, amongst digital professionals. It’s exciting, vibrant and it’s lively—the perfect environment from which to launch our European operations.”


SoftLayer has joined the Amsterdam Internet Exchange to drive its European presence.


“SoftLayer’s choice and business potential in Europe show a clear sign that regardless of the financial markets, our industry and the city of Amsterdam offer one of the best environments for companies, technology and engineering talent to thrive,” Job Witteman, AMS-IX chief executive officer said in a statement.


As stated in the press release, the company’s costumers in Europe will be able to pre-order services at the end of October.


As soon as the web hosting provider’s Amsterdam data center opens up in November, SoftLayer will have 13 data centers and 16 PoPs worldwide. The data center will have capacity for more than 15,000 servers.
