Greatresponder.com on August 18, 2012 : This news surfaced through Network World this week that Joyent cloud computing company is about to discontinue it’s most attractive offer on web hosting deals that supported life time access of the web hosted sites that were bought under lifetime plan of web hosting. This offer was started in year 2005; this offer can be purchased for as much as just $499. This offer is named as TextDrive.
But later this week company has announced the same through emails and website messages that lifetime web hosting plans are going to be abolished from October 31, 2012. This news is being denounced by web hosting customers of Joyent who made this offer successful many years back and though that they would also get lifetime profits; they also termed this as “broken Promise” of Joyent Company.
Mr. Ken McKinney an email user posted on his Google+ profile that the message from this web hosting company received reads, “For many business reasons, including infrastructure performance, service quality and manageability, these early products are nearing their End of Life. We plan to sunset these services on October 31, 2012.”
At the same time Chief Technical Officer of Joyent Mr. Jason Hoffman apologized on Joyent forums and said, “I’m sorry that I’ve lost that trust and I’ve upset you. You have a right to be upset. This was a tough decision with some nuance to it and none of this is lost on me. It’s ironic that our biggest advocates are the ones most affected by this… I can’t make the argument as to why it can continue.”
This is very important to note that this service was started in Year 2005 and the package consisted of 20GB bandwidth per month, 2GB of disk space from textDrive, and 15 top level domains.
