Greatresponder.com on Jan. 12, 2013: Wholesale data center operator Digital Realty Trust announced on Thursday it recently acquired an established data center in Macquarie Park, New South Wales for $12.43 million in an effort to expand its Australian footprint.
Located at 23-25 Waterloo Road, the 24,606-square-foot data center was previously owned by Australian Superannuation fund Australian Unity.
The acquisition marks Digital Realty Trust’s second data center in New South Wales region. The data center operator also has a data center located at 1-23 Templar Rd in Erskine Park.
The move continues to build on Digital Realty Trust’s portfolio of 110 properties in 32 markets throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, making it the leading provider of wholesale data centers in the world.
Last year, Digital Realty Trust acquired data centers in Totowa, New Jersey and Aurora, Colorado, as well as a 10-acre site in Dublin, Ireland for the purpose of a future Digital Realty Trust build.
Macquarie Park is a major business hub in Australia, located close to Sydney’s Central Business District.
The acquired data center comprises 5.7MW of power, 30-inch raised floors and HVAC temperature-control systems with separate cooling zones.
The building itself holds four Digital Realty Turn-Key Flex solution data centers, the company’s turn-key modular data center.
“Macquarie Park is an established hub for high-tech companies operating in Sydney,” said Kris Kumar, SVP and regional head for Asia Pacific at Digital Realty Trust. “Along with our recently completed Turn-Key Flex data center at Erskine Park, this acquisition is one more step in our Australian expansion plans, demonstrating our commitment to this important Asia Pacific market.”
