Greatresponder.com on Dec 22, 2012:: The giant Data center operator Equinix has partnered with Emirates telecommunications to deliver data center and interconnection services to the Middle East business owners. Equinix has acquired a new data center in Dubai with a capacity of 44,000 square feet and approximately 650 cabinets.
Equinix’s partnership with Emirates Telecommunications will establish the “first world-class, carrier-neutral hub in the region where carriers, content providers, cloud providers, financial service and enterprise customers colocate critical data infrastructure,” according to the press release.
Equinix will complete the first phase of the data center for a public opening by January 1, 2013. The data center operator says it will invest approximately $40 million for the acquisition, upgrade and future expansion of the data center. The move follows Equinix’s recent data center openings of phase two of its Sydney SY3 International Business Exchange data center, the third phase of its London LD5 International Business Exchange data center in Slough, UK, and SH5 data center in Shanghai.
Emirates Telecommunications also recently developed datamenabrand, which it expects to further invest the datamena platform and portfolio of services over time. The datamena Services, which will be available at Equinix and Emirates Telecommunications’s data centers, constitute a transit zone in which international customers will be able to host and distribute content, as well as trade data capacity in an affordable way.
Along with investments in the datamena hub, Emirates Telecommunications has also secured the capability to offer its enterprise customers Emirates Telecommunications managed data center services and data center capacity. The partnership gives customers of Emirates Telecommunications and Equinix the benefit of being located close to the UAE and regional market, providing them with access to more than 4,000 customers across Platform Equinix.
This will greatly benefit those customers seeking to expand their global footprint, and will help to facilitate growth among businesses in the UAE and the rest of the Middle East region. UAE-based companies will have a competitive edge through the provision of the new data centers located within the country, while Emirates Telecommunications will be able to provide network, interconnection and data center services to its existing UAE customers.
“The Middle East continues to strengthen its position as an important business hub and we are seeing increased demand from our customers for data center services across the region,” said Eric Schwartz, president of Equinix EMEA. “We see Dubai and the UAE as a key business gateway and are excited to open a new data center in the area to help facilitate growth. Many companies are looking to expand their operations into and out of the area, and we will be working with Emirates Telecommunications to provide the connectivity and services they require to succeed.”
